Long Islanders Voted Bethpage Federal Credit Union New York Air Show at Jones Beach in Wantagh Best Annual Event/Festival on Long Island!
Events and festivals are fun for the whole family to attend. Every year Long Islanders patiently wait for their favorite annual events or festival to arrive. Annual events and festivals are extra special because they only come once a year! We bring you this year’s winners for Best Annual Event/Festival on Long Island.
1. Bethpage Federal Credit Union New York Air Show at Jones Beach
Jones Beach State Park, Wantagh. 631-321-3510. www.jonesbeachairshow.com
One of the most anticipated events of every year, the Bethpage Federal Credit Union New York Air Show at Jones Beach is something of an unofficial starting gun for summer on Long Island. The event itself, held over Memorial Day weekend, is a thing of great visual wonder and physical thrill, as fighter jets (last year it was the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels and the Canadian Forces’ CF-18 Demonstration Team) barrel and blast and dip and twirl against the blue sky above the expansive beach.
2. Oyster Bay Oyster Festival
70 E. Main St., Oyster Bay. 516-922-6464. www.theoysterfestival.org
The Oyster Bay Oyster Festival was started in honor of one of Long Island’s most successful residents-Theodore Roosevelt. The festival was started to celebrate Roosevelt’s 125th birthday, and was such a success that it became an annual event. Today it has over 300 food vendors, rides, entertainment and tours of historic ships and vessels. And don’t forget the oyster eating and shucking contest-an even that always draws a large crowd.
3. Nassau BOCES “Education Partner” Awards Gala
71 Clinton Rd., Garden City. 516-396-2500. www.nassauboces.org
This annual event honors those who help make a difference in education. Past honorees range from school superintendents to volunteers. They are chosen based on their commitment to students and education. The Nassau BOCES “Education Partner” Awards Gala directly benefits students in Nassau BOCES classes and program because all money made at the event is used to fund an annual grants program that allows employees to try new and creative educational opportunities.
