The perennial favorite among Memorial Day celebrations, the Jones Beach Air Show pays homage to our vets with thrilling aerial performances. This two-day beachside fest features some of the military’s aerial elite, including the USAF Thunderbirds, the Canadian Snowbirds, and the US Army Golden Knights. With record-breaking attendance last year, the bar has been raised to out-do festivals past, and we’re confident this year will not disappoint.

2nd Place - The Long Island Fall Festival at Huntington, Heckscher Park, Route 25A, Huntington. Oct. 8-11. www.lifallfestival.com

This festival is featured in early October of every year. It is the site for family fun and presents all Huntington has to offer. Some of these free attractions include: four stages of entertainment, a world-class carnival, hundreds of arts and craft vendors, beer and wine tents and so much more.

3rd Place – Oyster Bay Oyster Festival, East Main Street, Oyster Bay. Oct. 16-17, 2010. www.theoysterfestival.org

In honor of President Theodore Roosevelt, the town of Oyster has hosted a festival commemorating his birthday for about 26 years. It first started out as a local event, however in 2003 it was moved to a waterfront park where people from the metropolitan area can also be apart of the family fun. Activities include: Arts and crafts, games, and vendors.

I think it would be nice if the OYSTERFEST in Oyster Bay allowed gift as well as hand-crafted only vendors into the festival. Not everyone wants to buy hand-crafted goods. I think the variety would be nicer if they allowed better gift vendors in too…Something for everyone. No dollar store type items. They are really adamant about hand-crafted only. Come on now, they have Pirates! Do you really think that people who like Pirates are only interested in handcrafts?
