I have been an antique dealer on Long Island for several decades, and I believe that I am qualified as somewhat of an authority on the subject. I would greatly appreciate an understanding of the criteria upon which you based your determination relating to the best antique stores on Long Island. Your awards for the “best of” leave me somewhat speachless.

While I certainly consider my store to be one of the “best of”, I am not writing to complain that my store wasn’t mentioned. I am aware of the merchandise level of the operations that you deemed worthy of recognition, and am friendly with one of the owners in particular. You are right…the staff and confines are very pleasant in these three stores. Why is it then that my store, and several others that I am familiar with, are the envy of these retailers. We carry quality 17′th-19′th century furniture, art, glass, clocks, bronzes, porcelain, etc. Familiar names such as Tiffany, Daum, Belter, Moran, Hunziger (to name a few) abound in our establishments. Can these retailers claim the same. In our trade (antique dealers), my position is the standard to which we hold ourselves when determing the “best of”. High quality is what determines the best in any enviroment. Mike Basch, Townhouse Antiques, Bellport, NY.
