What makes one suds shop stand out from another? It’s simple: The helpful staff at Wantagh Beverage is a first-place winner for Best Beer Distributor because they’re there to help you decide between the myriad of ales, lagers, ciders, stouts, malt liquors and hybrid beers out there among the plethora of microbrews to choose from. They also have a wide selection of growlers available. And for hops heads who really can’t make up their mind, they let you mix and match with “make your own six packs.” We’ll say cheers to that!

2nd Place – Big Z Beverage, 1675 E. Jericho Tpke., Huntington. 631-499-3479. www.bigzbeverage.com

Simply the best. Great selection, great service. If, on rare occasion, the don’t have what you want, be rest assured… they WILL get it. They also carry Playboy Energy (both sizes) which is hard to find ANYWHERE!

Wantagh Beverage sucks. Whoever voted must be friends or family of the place. They have a very small selection, and high prices. You cannot truthfully compare them to Beverage Barn or Thrifty Beverage. On average Wantagh Beverage asks $3 more than BB or TB per case.
And they dont carry half the brands that BB or TB do.

Not even close.

The previous comment are probably also from insiders. I call ‘conspiracy’ on this one!
LI Press, don’t deceive your readers. Wantagh Beverage should be removed from this.

(Maybe worth mentioning: I have never had a problem at the Wantagh store, so this is not personal. Its just honestly nowhere near as good a store as the others I mentioned.)

i love the bev, it is the ONLY place where you can get your fav beer, have a great conversation & even grab a bite to eat. obv swaste enjoys a nazi type environment that ive had at thrifty & mike you must be to dumb to realize that “Wantagh Beverage BARN” is part of the BEVERAGE BARN chain. at thrifty i found the prices higher if not the same at the bev & at tb you walk in go directly to your basic beer. then pay, then you go home with your natty. at the bev, go in chat with the friendly staff, get some great beer, learn about others & leave with some of the crazist beers from around the world. when you leave you cannot wait to come back. swaste, bud do yourself a favor & stop into the bev it really is a great experience. Wantagh Beverage.. LONG ISLAND LOVE’S YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dan, thanks for the comments, i too want a bit of feedback, suggestions, helpful atmosphere, and the ability to mix & match. Who wants to take a chance on a 6 ur gonna hate? I’m in Lynbrook and my guys are slowly coming around to ordering what i want, and they let me buy 1 from a 6 the other day.

to Dan Russle:

I go to a store to get what I want/need, and pay the least. I have friends that I can hang out with, and drink my beer with. I don’t need a friendly shopping environment, just one that provides what I want and doesnt rip me off. The staff at the stores I recommend are more than helpful and friendly enough for any shopper. You must come across as friendly in real life as you do on the internet. (example: calling me ‘too dumb’)
Dan, do what makes you happy. You like Wantagh Beverage, great. Just keep your insults to yourself. Oh, and nice grammar and spelling, you moronic illiterate loser.
See, that wasn’t very nice, was it?

Awesome selection and especially nice to make my own 6 pack – these guys even ordered some rare west coast brews for me and called me up when they came in. Place to prepare for a party or bbq, or just to fill the fridge.

what rare west coast beers?…

They never even heard of Ballast Point or AleSmith, let alone Russian River (very rare even in the best NYC beer bars).

If their idea of rare west coast beer is Stone and Green Flash they’re still living in the 90’s.

happy to hear it mike, and my spelling & grammar was just fine when i spent 10 years serving in the marines { explosives tech} so that queers like yourself could remain free, your welcome. you dont like good Beer or the right to say what you want, then go back to your country.

Wantagh Beverage is a poor excuse for a beer store and in no way the #1 beer store on Long Island.
Big Z and Shoreline in Huntington are 2 of the best. The BB in East Meadow and Garden City Park are also way better than WB. I haven’t been to WB for about a year, so after hearing that they were voted #1 I thought there might have been a change in owners. The place hadn’t changed at all from my last visit. It’s small and dirty with several out of date beers on the shelves and coolers. I wouldn’t get a growler filled from there as their tap lines are probably full of bacteria due to lack of cleaning… and they say they are a deli as well?… I wouldn’t eat a sandwich from there if they paid me to eat it. I would however bet money that the NYS Department of Health would close this place down if they gave them a surprise inspection!

Hey Joe, I checked out the bev. Its a lot different then the place you described. I popped over there after beerspying Xingu on beer advocate. They have over 200 cold micro brews in their cooler. I also filled a growler of Sixpoints Bengali Tiger (no bacteria at all). Did one of the guys over there sleep with your wife or girlfriend? You sound kinda angry. Just kidding dude. You should go back there, it has changed since your last review.

Reading all these reviews I must agree with Rich. Not the same place at all. Maybe it’s not Wantagh Beverage you were in. Regardless, I was there for a tasting sponsored by Founders and Speakeasy this past weekend and it was great! More taps than the last time I was in there. I will go back when it’s less crowded so I can fill other growlers – Place was packed. Founders, Southern Tier, Stone, Six Point Righteous Rye… AWESOME!!

Great Job Wantagh Beverage! I am on board with Rich – More cold exotics than anywhere – Even my neighborhood.

You guys did it again! Great tasting this past weekend. New Six Points, Coney Island and More. Awesome integration with the Chili Cook off. Definitely tested the Palet. Hope this becomes a monthly event. See you soon!

Place doesn’t come close to Shoreline or Big Z….Shoreline was the first place on the island to put in taps for growlers (following the lead of Half Time up in Albany)…everyone else jumped in after they did it .Big Z and Shoreline both have ten taps for growler fills and Big Z lets you buy a full half gallon growler or a quart. Great beers, great people.

Who cares who had them first. Wantagh Bev has 12 lines and it a lot closer than Half Time. Wantagh Bev also sells full and half growlers
