Best Record Store on Long Island

by Best Of Long Island on January 5, 2010

In order to keep your ears free from the likes of Lindsay Lohan and Heidi Montag, you’ve got to know where to shop for music. By the grace of God, here on Long Island we have our choice of music stores.

Long Islanders Voted Looney Tunes in West Babylon the Best Record Store On Long Island!

Looney Tunes
31 Brookvale Ave.
West Babylon
631-587-7722

Looney Tunes was among the elite record stores on Long Island before it burned down in 2007. And since being rebuilt, it’s only gotten better. A lot better. Looney Tunes is run by people who love music—and who will talk your ear off about music, if you give them the chance. Which you should. Because the best thing about record stores is not necessarily the inventory—and, by the way, Looney Tunes’ inventory is second to none—but the passion shared by both patrons and staff, and the conversations between those two parties. Those conversations (and their participants) have no better venue than here.

2nd Place – Soundtraks Ltd., 356 New York Ave., Huntington. 631-427-1313. www.myspace.com/soundtraksltd

Soundtraks is a privately owned record store that has been on Long island since 1985. Their staff has a very high level of knowledge about music and even better tastes. Soundtraks has a wide selection of music and is a perfect place for music lovers of all genres.

3rd Place - Mr. Cheapo CD and Record Exchange, 46 Jericho Tpke., Commack. 631-543-8686. 134 Jericho Tpke., Mineola. 516-742-7670. www.mrcheapocds.com

Mr. Cheapo CD and Record Exchange specializes in the buying and selling of used DVDs and CDs within the Long Island community. This unique record store has been around for almost 20 years. Mr. Cheapo CD and Record Exchange is a great place for those who are looking for records or CDs that are no longer sold in stores.

What’s a record? They still make those except for collectors items?

Why do they call CD stores RECORD stores?

Okay, after your poor recommendation in the ‘Best Diner’ category, I figured I would run the litmus test and look up which music store you have deemed the best. I said to myself, “If they have Mr. Cheapo’s on the list, that is IT for this site.” And voila, there it is! The name leaves nothing to the imagination; the owner is rude, CHEAP, and unprofessional. Another royal fail- who runs this site??
