That’s what makes getting popular opinion on the best singles spot on Long Island so important. It helps to have a shortcut to bypass the B.S.

Long Islanders voted Lily Flanagan’s in Babylon the Best Singles Spot on Long Island!

Frankly, it doesn’t matter, because Lily Flanagan’s has a singles crowd only heard about in legend. Check your coat and emotional baggage at the door, grab a drink and flirt it up. With a gang this single and ready to mingle, worst case scenario, you end up with plenty of new Facebook friends.

Home to such talented vocalists as Mariah Carey, Billy Joel and Debbie Gibson, finding the best singer on Long Island is a tall task, to say the least. But there certainly are worse things to be famous for as a region than having too many talented and gifted songsters to choose from as a favorite.

Long Islanders Voted Ryan Star the Best Singer from Long Island!

Ryan Star
www.rstar.net

With a surname like Star, how can he not be on this list? Ryan is no stranger to the Best of L.I. list, having been crowned a winner in several categories in the last few years. This LI-bred singer became an indie success with his album Songs From the Eye of an Elephant. Star continued the streak, signing with Atlantic Records and becoming a regular on the aptly titled TV show Rockstar. We’re amazed at how the crooner has remained so adorably humble.Case in point—Ryan’s Twitter: “Rockin out at my grandpa’s senior center on Long Island. Really fun. Good crowd.” A rock star who hangs out with his Gramps? Swoon.

Second Place - Ed Ryan, www.ed-ryan.com

Ever since the start of his career, Ed Ryan has been praised as being one of the best singer/songwriters on Long Island. He has been in numerous successful bands and taken the crown at many music competitions. Ed even made his mark on the comedy world, holding his own while sharing the stage with such acts as Ray Romano and Kevin James. Whether it’s performing with a band or doing stand-up, one thing is for sure, whatever stage Ed Ryan graces, he’ll take it for all it’s worth.

Third Place - Nina Tolins, www.ninaninanina.com

Nina Tolins seems to have done it all already: she won the Billboard World Song Contest, she’s a top artist not only in New York but in Japan as well, and she’s been featured on off-Broadway and cable television productions. This girl’s pipes even blew Patti LaBelle away when the legendary singer called her up onstage to sing a song; you know you have to be talented if Patti LaBelle is admiring your vocal chords.

If it’s the channel you turn to for your drive-time commute, at work for some background tuneage or on the boombox at home, finding the best radio station on Long Island is just a turn of the dial away. You’re simply not going to find DJs with that local connection on satellite radio.

Long Islanders Voted WBLI the Best Radio Station on Long Island!

WBLI
106.1 FM
www.wbli.com

Whether it’s the dead of winter or the peak of summer, anyone with a pulse will agree the perfect soundtrack to the perfect day has the words “Jonas” and “Bros.” in it. So when it comes to hearing the latest and greatest from Billboard’s Top 100, LI’s own 106.1 BLI brings the nation’s biggest hits to your radio. Whether you’re going to party in the U.S.A. or make good girls go bad or stand under an umbrella (ella, ella, ay, ay), one of your presets is always going to be 106.1.

2nd Place - WBAB, 102.3 FM. www.wbab.com

Whether you have a hankering for classic or something a little more new school, WBAB is Long Island’s choice when it comes to rock music. Located in the middle of top 40 hits and bubble gum pop on your dial, WBAB is the most listened to rock station on the island. The station has even been credited as being the pioneer of album-oriented rock music, and they don’t just stick to one type of rock either; you can catch a trance-inducing track by Pink Floyd one minute, then the most recent single from Green Day the next. So next time you’re stuck in traffic, turn your dial to 102.3FM, throw up the horns and let loose.

3rd Place – WFUV, 90.7 FM. www.fuv.org

Everyone knows that when it comes to finding new and interesting music, you turn left of the dial and hit up the college radio stations-and WFUV is no exception. Licensed to Fordham University, WFUV serves almost 350,000 listeners each week, and that’s just New York alone. The station is a leader in contemporary music offering a diverse spectrum of music, everything from up and coming indie rock, blues and even world music. Not only does WFUV fulfill your musical needs, it also keeps you updated with what’s going on in the world with local/national news broadcasts, sports and even traffic reports.

There exists what can perhaps be best described as an undying yearning that is born when a loved one is lost. Sure, the realm of dreams provides one avenue for communication with our deceased, but sometimes even this is not enough to squelch this mighty urge. Fortunately for all true believers, and especially those who call Long Island their home, a host of psychics do, too. Best of L.I. voters foretell of the best.

Long Islanders Voted John Edward the Best Psychic on Long Island!

John Edward
www.johnedward.net

The prospect of communicating with the deceased—to tell a best friend you miss them, to tell a relative that family get-togethers aren’t the same without them, to tell Grandma you actually didn’t like the hand-knit sweater she gave you for your birthday—is simultaneously exciting and frightening. It’s those traits that drive people to John Edward and have made him a nationally recognized personality. So it comes as no surprise he’s won in the Best Psychic category for the second year in a row, without any supernatural ballot box stuffing.

2nd Place – Cindi Sansone-Braff www.grantmeahigherlove.com

Not only will Cindi Sansone-Braff read you your fortune; she’ll also help you on your journey of understanding the complexities of love. Throughout her career, she has helped guide many clients, including some well-named celebrities, travelled the country and the world giving private tarot readings and even wrote several award winning full-length plays about love, fear and Enlightenment. And don’t worry if you can’t meet with her face-to-face, she can even give you a reading over email-how high tech!

3rd Place – Karen L. Garvey, 373 Nesconset Hwy, Ste. 125, Hauppauge. 866-263-3879. www.theanswersunlimited.homestead.com

A self-proclaimed clairvoyant, Karen L. Garvey has been in-tune with the psychic world ever since 9/11. She’s no ordinary medium, however, not only can she tap into the energy of lost loved ones, Garvey can also tune into other physical non-souls who are just looking for a decent conversation. By acting as a conduit between our world and the paranormal, Garvey sets out to help her clients find peace and come to terms with all their unanswered questions.

With a plethora of bars and clubs across Long Island to kickstart the night, there are really but a handful that rise to the top, earning the accolades of Best Nightclub on Long Island not only for their prominence in attracting large crowds on a nightly basis, but for providing the very best acts and overall environment. The top spots do all of this, and much, much more, consistently.

Long Islanders Voted The Crazy Donkey in Farmingdale the Best Nightclub on Long Island!

The Crazy Donkey
1058 Rte. 110
Farmingdale
Check. Big biceps? Check. Girls: Stilettos? Check. Hula hoop-sized earrings? Check. Then it’s time to cruise down Route 110, slip the valet an Abraham Lincoln so he takes good care of your whip, and drink and dance the night away at the Crazy Donkey. Always a thriving place once the sun sets, the Donk pulls off back-to-back wins in the Best Nightclub category. And like an appetizer to the fist-pumping entrée, the line outside has music and drinks served while you wait. Sick, bro.

2nd Place – Mulcahy’s Pub & Concert Hall, 3232 Railroad Ave, Wantagh. 516-783-7500. 1702 Middle Country Rd, Centereach. 631-696-1111. www.muls.com

This pub has a lot more than Irish music to offer its patrons. Every weekend, Mulcahy’s offers a wide range of musical stylings from cover bands to hard rock groups. There’s always a little something for everyone at a price everyone can afford.

3rd Place – The Nutty Irishman, 60 E. Main St., Bay Shore. 631-969-9700. 323 Main St., Farmingdale. 516-293-9700. www.thenuttyirishman.com

With open mic nights, dance parties, DJ’s and live bands, The Nutty Irishman really covers the entire musical spectrum. There’s also a karaoke night for those who think they can do better than the acts booked. The party starts on Thursday nights so make sure you head on down and join the fun.

What can be said about Cinema Arts Centre that hasn’t been already? At the film forefront with independent and foreign cinema, behind-the-scenes discussions and quirky film symposiums, CAC is a rare gem. With so many theaters trading integrity for stadium seating and blockbusters, CAC has remained the vanguard of respected cinema, inviting patrons not only to see films, but experience the world in which they exist. That’s why Press readers have voted it one of the Best of L.I. for half a decade.
Everyone on Long Island knows his name, and if the wind is blowing the right way, his shout can be heard for miles with or without a radio. Whether he’s talking up the local Honda dealership or shaking his bon-bon in a kiddie pool filled with Ramen noodles, there’s really no mistaking WBLI’s Randy for anyone else. And that endearing quality is what’s made him one of this year’s Best Personality on L.I. winners. Who else wears a pastel-colored boa in their profile picture?

He has become a staple in American pop culture, and has made quite the earnings out of his exercise empire. And come on, admit it, you’ve secretly always wanted to be one of those people on the commercials who get to yell out, “It’s Fitness Made Simple!”

3rd Place – Opie, Sirius/XM Satellite Radio. www.opieandanthony.org

No one can deny the crude humor of this shock jock when he and his partner, Anthony, hit the radio waves. Opie leads the pack with his no holds barred comments on American sociopolitical and pop culture, and the DJs even take time out to let their listener’s voice their opinions on matters as well. You can also thank Opie and pals for those “W.O.W” bumper stickers you constantly see on the backs of almost every car on the L.I.E.

They say there’s nothing quite like taking in a live theatrical performance to soothe the spirit and rejuvenate the soul. Long Islanders know that even with our close proximity to Manhattan and Broadway, there’s really no need to head into the Big City to witness such a show, since Long Island is home to a colorful local live theater cast of its own—with performances just as spectacular.

You may know the Engeman Theater as the place to see quality live theater on Long Island. We know it as the place to see quality live theater on Long Island that also serves absinthe and mead. The first time we entered the theater we wanted to move in—a little corner would do us just fine. Because when you walk through the doors, you’ll feel like you’ve been transported back centuries to a time when Edgar Allan Poe roamed the streets mumbling to himself and when men battled dragons with their bare hands. It’s inspiring—even before the curtains open. Located in downtown Northport, this intimate, enchanting play house is a little slice of Broadway, and Renaissance charm, on Main Street—no schlepping to Manhattan involved.

2nd Place – Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts, 71 E. Main St., Patchogue. 631-207-1313. www.patchoguetheatre.com

This theater prides itself on showcasing a diverse range of performing arts, from live performances to educational presentations, all at an affordable price for its patrons. The theatre serves as a cultural center for its community, and whatever you want to see, whether it is a philharmonic orchestra or a country line dance troupe, you’ll find it here.

3rd Place – Theatre Three, 412 Main St., Port Jefferson. 631-928-9100. www.theatrethree.com

Theatre Three is really a theater for the people, by the people; after all, you are the ones who keep it going strong. This company thrives on the support of its patrons to ensure its place in the community as a beacon of teaching and developmental skills for young performers. Also, as a member of this theater, you get the satisfaction of being hands on in the development of productions as well as knowing that you’re helping to make a difference in your community.

The voters have whittled them all down, and we proudly present here for you: the Best Happy Hour on Long Island.

And what goes better with your 2-fers and live music than a buffet? So head on down, and dance off all that booze and food you’ll inevitably pound back.

3rd Place – The Nutty Irishman, 60 E. Main St., Bay Shore. 631-969-9700. 323 Main St., Farmingdale. 516-293-9700. www.thenuttyirishman.com

So, loosen up those ties, let down your hair and talk bad about all the idiots at your job over a nice cold one and some buffalo wings.
