Best Chinese Restaurant on Long Island

by Best Of Long Island on January 5, 2010

For better or for worse the classic suburban Cantonese fried rice restaurant is going the way of the phone booth on Long Island. These days our Chinese food cravings are filled at more authentic places that offer sushi and a few Thai dishes but the old school spots still are among the best.

Long Islanders Voted Kwong Ming In Wantagh The Best Chinese Restaurant On Long Island!

Kwong Ming
3342 Jerusalem Ave.
Wantagh
516-221-0480

Loyal customers love this throwback—it’s been here feeding South Shore families since 1962—to the Chinese-American-style, white-tablecloth chow mein parlors of yesteryear, that have largely disappeared from LI, giving way to trendy Asian bistros and sushi bars. This is good old mid-century, familiar stick-to-your-spare-ribs food. Sweet and sour pork, wonton soup, fried rice and egg rolls rule its unabashedly all-Cantonese menu. Chow down like its 1969.

i love chinese food, i would actually put fortune wheel as number one, they have amazing dim sum on the weekends thats packed with chinese and they have a live fish tank with lobster, fish, and shrimp, and eel, they also have an amzing lion dance show for chinese new year every year, a must see

second i would put kwong ming, they are awesome as well, but no dim sum, and no live seafood,

the orient, just ok

so i went to the fortune wheel tonite. The atmosphere was nice but does not hold a candle to the orient.
the eggdrop soup was good. The shrimp with lobster sauce was tasteless as was the fried rice.

I am a weekly customer at the Orient in Bethpage and I had to try this place. Ill be going back to the Orient. The shrimp with Lobster sauce and fried rice is so much better.

KWON MING IN WANTAGH IS BY FAR THE WORST CHINESE FOOD ON LONG ISLAND. THE FOOD WAS SO SATURATED WITH OIL, THE PLACE IS OLD. THE NOODLES AND DUCK SAUCE ON THE TABLE WERE HORRIBLE… ALL THE CHINA WAS CHIPPED. IT IS NOW AFTER 1AM AND I AM NURSING MY SICK DAUGHTER WHO HAS VOMITTED 4 TIMES ALREADY FRIED RICE, AND CHICKEN AND BROCCOLI. THE BOARD OF HEALTH DEFINITELY NEEDS TO VISIT THIS PLACE. I AM SHOCKED THAT PEOPLE ACTUALLY WROTE POSITIVE FEEDBACK ON THIS RESTAURANT, THUMBS DOWN FOR SURE! DOES ANYONE KNOW A REALLY GOOD CHINESE FOOD REST. ON LONG ISLAND???

I’m a big fan of Chinese restaurants. I grew up at Gum Ying in w. Hempstead a former sister restaurant to Kuam Ming. Those place as well as Pearl East in great Neck are the best. Until I cam across a Biden gem in the Woodbury common “Asian Bistro Next Door”
