Best Diner on Long Island

by Best Of Long Island on January 6, 2010

One of the best luxuries in life has nothing to do with fancy cars or expensive wine. It’s all about eating pancakes any time you choose, whether that’s 9 a.m. or 9 p.m. or two in the morning. That’s living. Here are the best diners on Long Island to do so.

Long Islanders Voted the Massapequa Diner in Massapequa Best Diner on Long Island!

The Massapequa Diner is the quintessential Long Island “Greek” diner. Not just a touchstone in the early coffee-drinking career of Jerry Seinfeld, it provides the daily comforting meals that a busy populace needs for sustenance. Nothing fancy, just fresh, well-prepared food, good portions and friendly faces. In short, everything a diner should be.

If you haven’t been to the “On Parade Diner” in Woodbury on Jericho Turnpike, then you haven’t been to the best diner on Long Island. This diner has everything. Fresh, tastefully prepared dishes, clean, inviting and up to date surroundings and music at many of the window tables. The Italian chicken parm is much better than many Italian restaurant’s. Their sliced lamb shank with mint jelly is the best (a special on some days). All their salads are fresh and crisp. The chicken salad is highly recommended too. On a hot summer day their cool creamy frozen yogurt is the best. Try it and see.

This is definitely someone who owns the on parade… Celebrity diner down the road is brighter and has better food. Celebrity diner is overpriced- I’ve been there for breakfast meetings and lunch meetings. Big difference in prices and what you get compared to other diners…..some of the servers have attitudes. Best diner is the newly renovated colony diner in e.meadow on Hempstead tpk. Food is fantastic- good portioned and the inside is absolutely gorgeous- looks more like a restaurant..

Meant to say on parade is overpriced. Celebrity is very reasonable. Oops.

Once again the mark is missed here, where is the South Bay Diner in Babylon/Lindenhurst on Sunrise Highway across from the Babylon Town Hall. I have eaten in both the Massapequa ( I live in N Massapequa) and S. Bay and S. Bay beats Massapequa by a light year. Even the Lighthouse in Wantagh on Sunrise Hwy is better than the ‘Pequa.

The Forum Diner on Main Street in Bay Shore runs circles around all of the others. large menu, excellent food, service and, prices. Add to that a sparkling kitchen. What else could one want?

My favorite Diner hands down is the Lantern Diner in West Hempstead. The staff there is always friendly and the place is spotless!! Its open 24 hours which seems to not be the trend for all Diners anymore. I love going there for breakfast and late night snacks, they have the best pancakes and Tex Mex Wrap is my favorite!!
