Feta. Fresh fish. Chicken. Lamb. Grape leaves. Nothing says heaven more than a quality platter of Greek food. NOTHING. Fortunately, here on Long Island, though we’re not on Cyprus, we can still enjoy Greek cuisine done just how mama and poppa prepared it back home. Best of L.I. voters rounded out the very, very best for us all. Halloumi.
Long Islanders Voted Mediterranean Snack Bar in Huntington the Best Greek Food on Long Island!
Mediterranean Snack Bar Inc.
360 New York Ave., Huntington.
631-423-8982.
www.medsnackbar.com
Despite the latest trend of high-end Greek cuisine on LI, this local landmark takes first place for the fifth year with its easy café atmosphere. It’s casual, but with seriously fresh fish (from the owners’ boats), satisfying traditional dishes and good for a quick souvlaki and salad.
2nd Place – Ayhan’s Shish Kebab, Multiple locations. www.ayhans.com
This restaurant has three locations including: Plainview, Westbury, and Port Washington. This place is a nice atmosphere fit for a lunch date. Great meals to try are their grilled octopus, stuffed grape leaves and the Governor’s Feast, which is lamb, beef, and chicken kebab served over rice.
3rd Place – Zorba the Greek West, 620 S. Oyster Bay Rd., Hicksville. 516-932-9701.
Located in Hicksville, this is a lovely Greek restaurant with tranquil ambiance. The meals are very well-proportioned and tasty. Some meals to try are the salmon, gyros, and soups.
