There’s a reason they have hot dog eating contests and not broccoli eating contest. And the biggest of them all is a train ride away. Here are your favorite places to get a hot dog on Long Island.
Long Islanders Voted Nathan’s Famous Restaurant Best Hot Dogs on Long Island!
Nathan’s Famous Restaurant
Multiple locations
www.nathansfamous.com
The frankfurter that we take for granted has conquered the world, available in supermarkets and in mall food courts everywhere. The original Nathan’s in Coney Island will turn 100 this decade, but throwing back a few at a local outpost reveals the perfect blend of seasonings and the snap of the natural casing for a sublime experience.
2nd Place – Ben’s Kosher Delicatessen Multiple locations. www.bensdeli.net
It’s open 24 hours, and has a great selection of fresh produce. A favorite dish is the generous clamshells of field greens of only $2.50. There are also a couple of other random vegetables, fresh apricots, peaches, and kiwi, and cheap fresh salads. There are tons of other interesting things on the shelves, like garbanzo beans, etc.
3rd Place - Five Guys Burgers and Fries, Multiple locations. www.fiveguys.com
When it comes to fast food and “fast casual” restaurants, Five Guys Burgers and Fries has always been the exception. The staff is very friendly and seemed in good cheer and happy to be there. If you come here, you won’t leave with an empty stomach!
