Best Irish Bar on Long Island

by Best Of Long Island on January 5, 2010

Some places on Long Island, it’s St. Patrick’s Day all year round. Those are places we want to be. Here are your picks for best Irish bar on Long Island.

Long Islanders Voted Paddy’s Loft in Massapequa Best Irish Bar on Long Island!

Paddy’s Loft
1286 Hicksville Rd.
Massapequa
516-798-7660

It’s not hard to find an Irish bar, but it is hard to find a great one. Once you walk into Paddy’s Loft, it becomes clear why it was named one of the Best Irish Bars on LI—it’s like being transported to the Emerald Isle. It doesn’t hurt that the owners also have three establishments in the homeland. Don’t expect typical pub fare here, either. Part restaurant, the full menu includes both American cuisine and Irish favorites, like Shepherd’s Pie, Bangers and Mash and Lamb Stew. You can even take home a loaf of their Irish Soda Bread.

2nd Place - The Nutty Irishman, 323 Main St. Farmingdale. 516-293-9700. 60 E. Main St., Bay Shore. 631-969-9700. www.thenuttyirishman.com

This place is completely solid, the dance floor is large enough for an entire crew of people (50 or more), and they have two bars separated by about 50 feet.  The beer selection is medium sized (9-11 bottled, 6 on tap).

3rd Place - Jackie Reilly’s, 3964 Hempstead Tpke. Bethpage. 516-731-7544. www.jackiereillys.com

Jackie Reilly’s is a good place to hang out with a few friends and have a few drinks.  Enjoy live entertainment on Fridays and Saturdays.  Also try Jackie’s sampler of wings, mozzarella sticks, potato skins and chicken fingers.  Come on down and enjoy!

Paddy’s Loft is a disgrace to the Irish. The owner most likely sat at his computer and voted for his own place over & over, he’s creepy. Food is exactly what you pay for-small, cheap and comes out faster than a speeding bullet-bring your own toilet paper, they often run out.

I have to agree with Eileen and then some. Although I have to admit I never had a bad meal there, the owner of Paddy’s Loft is creepy and a crook and I would not at all be surprised if voting for himself was exactly how he made it to first place. I used to be a regular, but now you couldn’t pay me to walk in the place. Jackie Reilly’s (and Katie Daily’s), The Wantagh Inn, and Lily Flanigan’s of Babylon are real Irish pubs that don’t have a snake for an owner.

Eddie,

I live a couple of blocks from Donovan’s and the food is wonderful and the bar is lovely.

BUT, this is no true Irish restaurant! Can you call a place that only has fish and chips on certain days an Irish restaurant? I can’t. Fish and chips! They have it only on “special” on some days.

Not to dis the place otherwise, as the food is really good, well prepared, delicious and the service is lovely.
