On Long Island, where home-cooked Italian food is ubiquitous and practically indigenous, we know what constitutes “good Sunday gravy.” We are also fortunate to have a variety of restaurant sauces to bring home. The secret recipe for Vincent’s famous sauce has been around for 100 years. Like what you just ate? Then just grab a few jars on your way out. Original or marinara, these red sauces are just the right level of sweet, perfect for covering pasta or dipping calamari.

2nd Place – Iavarone Bros., Multiple locations. www.iavaronebros.com

This is a fantastic Italian deli with a huge selection. They have a great assortment of Italian cheeses and Italian sausage. They also have a huge selection of meats and cheeses for sandwiches.  A favorite dish is their Sicilian and grandma-style pizza.

3rd Place – Mamma Lombardi’s, 400 Furrows Rd., Holbrook. 631-737-0774. www.mammalombardis.com

This is excellent Italian food.  Their sauce is great with an authentic homemade flavor.  The quality of the meat pasta sauce is amazing. Lombardi’s All Natural Sauces are certainly the best sauces on the market.
