Best Mediterranean Restaurant on Long Island

by Best Of Long Island on January 5, 2010

Long Island, unbeknown to many, is a haven for delicious Mediterranean food, and that’s reflected in Long Island’s Best Mediterranean Restaurant.

Long Islanders Voted Wild Fig the Best Mediterranean Restaurant on Long Island!

Mediterranean food brings a wide range of tastes and flavors to the table (literally), and Long Islanders love the style that Wild Fig serves. The local Wild Fig mini-chain (Syosset is the latest) demystifies the cuisine, making Pide and Mezze as accessible as kebabs and hummus, in comfortable, brightly decorated rooms.

2nd Place – Mediterranean Snack Bar, 360 New York Ave., Huntington. 631-423-8982. www.medsnackbar.com

When walking into this restaurant, it’s almost like walking onto the streets of Greece. In their thirty years of business, they have had people from all over coming to try homemade baklava and fresh bluefish and porgies caught right off of the Long Island Sound.

3rd Place – Ayhan’s Shish Kebab, multiple locations. www.ayhans.com

This restaurant has three locations including: Plainview, Westbury and Port Washington. This place has a nice atmosphere fit for a lunch date. Great meals to try are their grilled octopus, stuffed grape leaves and the Governor’s Feast which is lamb, beef, and chicken kebab served over rice.

No Ephesus (Massapequa Park)? Proof the list is about name recognition, not quality.

This list is utter ridiculousness! I’ve been to all three of the above. Wild Fig is okay, but they are lacking in their customer service and the food lacks a “home made” taste. Mediterranean Snack Bar? Mediocre, although my boyfriend does love their chicken souvlaki. Shish Kebab is practically just edible. Ephesus in Massapequa Park? Absolutely the best. Everything is fresh, delicious, tastes like real home made food. The owners are delightful and the customer service is fantastic. It is truly a crime that Ephesus is not number one on this list.
