Before the Soupman and Hale and Hearty turned soup into a new casual restaurant category, the Kozy Kettle put down stakes on this popular restaurant row and heated their cauldrons of homemade soup—15 different varieties made fresh daily—warming the souls of the local populace and providing a template for others who can only follow their lead. And where else can you even find warm popovers on Long Island (free with each cup)?

This place is a bakery, café, and sweetshop. They specialize in making custom cakes, whether it be for weddings, birthdays, or other holidays. They make chocolates and, of course, great soup.

3rd Place – Waterzooi Belgian Bistro, 850 Franklin Ave., Garden City. 516-877-2177. www.waterzooi.com

Located in the heart of Garden City, this bistro serves lunch, dinner, and brunch. They also have a variety of global wines and over 130 Belgian beers. It is a very chic lounge with a lovely ambiance and caters to a  more sophisticated crowd.

I’m sure their soup is tasty, however, the best soup (chicken) I’ve tasted was at: Afgan Grill in New Hyde Park. The salantro sprigs is the definitive touch to an unbelievable assault on every taste bud. You actually feel better after consuming this treasure. And at 5.00 a bowl it’s the bargain of the best as well.

You haven’t tasted the best until you’ve tasted one of our fresh made…daily 12 SOUPS…..Caribbean Red Lentil…the best GAZPACHO this side of the world, thick Lobster Bisque, Chunky New England Clam Chowder….you name…Stuffed Pepper soup….Quinoa with Vegetables,
we make it all….and it’s ALL good enough to write home about!!!!
So for a diversion ….and a piece of fresh sour dough bread, a muffin, crackers and soup….come on over…we are open 7 days a week.
