Best Environmental Organization on Long Island

by Best Of Long Island on January 5, 2010

Long Island is home to some amazing natural wonders-miles of beaches, state parks, pine barrens to name a few. Our environmental organizations are making sure they stay that way.

Long Islanders Voted The Nature Conservancy in East Hampton the Best Environmental Organization on Long Island

Since the 1950s, the Nature Conservancy has fought to preserve more than 150,000 acres of pine barrens, forests, coastal dunes, ocean beaches and wetlands across Long Island. Among their chief initiatives are monitoring the wetlands for rising seawaters and helping to restore local shellfish populations. Simply put, the Nature Conservancy protects the best Long Island has to offer, and that is something we can all be thankful for.

How does LI Cares get second place in this category? They aren’t an environmental organization.

Vision:

The purpose of the Long Island Chapter of the US Green Building Council is to mirror and advance the core purpose of the US Green Building Council locally; to transform the way buildings and communities are designed, built and operated, enabling an environmentally and socially responsible, healthy, and prosperous environment that improves the quality of life.

Mission

The USGBC-LI is committed to working with our fellow Long Islanders to improve our quality of life by improving the quality of the structures we build, and the environment in which we all live, work, and play. We are committed to leaving the world a little better than we found it so that future generations have an unfettered opportunity to do the same.
