We all need a little fixing now and then. But unfortunately, people aren’t like cars. So, when you’re kids are doing poorly in school, having behavior problems, or just have trouble getting their engines started, you can’t bring them to Jiffy Lube for a 5-minute oil change and call it a day. But you can bring them to Dr. Howard Gurr. He’s been helping Long Island manage its problems for the past quarter century. With blogs and a podcast called “The Shrink Is In,” this doc has not only made psychotherapy modern, but he does it with a sense of humor. Dr. Gurr is not just a doctor, but an advocate. He has been affiliated with hospitals, clinics, and school districts—all on LI—so it’s no surprise to us that he’s the one you want to have in your corner.

How do you come about “voting” for the best therapist? I have had experience with Dr. Macari while my teenage son was in therapy and was more than dissatisfied. How many people actually vote?…how do you know if they are legitimate? What are the actual requirements , if you will, for a good therapist? I wish I would have known about it …maybe my vote would have altered the outcome to reveal something closer to the truth.
