Best Bike Shop on Long Island

by Best Of Long Island on January 5, 2010

Pee-Wee Herman was all about the bike. If you were born after 1987 you probably have no idea what we’re talking about, so moving on…Where is the best bike shop to pick up a brand new set of wheels on Long Island? Let’s take a look.

Long Islanders Voted Brands Cycle & Fitness in Wantagh the best Bike Shop on Long Island!

Brands Cycle & Fitness
1966 Wantagh Ave.
Wantagh
800-649-3739
www.brandscycle.com

There isn’t a weekend that goes by that LI’s cycling community isn’t up at the crack of dawn, weather be damned, covering the Island. And many of them go to Brands Cycle & Fitness. The cycle shop has been outfitting Long Island’s two-wheeled road warriors since 1954 and is a four-time Best Of winner. Whether it’s bikes, parts, accessories or training, Brands wears the yellow jersey.

2nd Place - Babylon Bike Shop – 218 E. Main St., Babylon. 631-587-6709. www.babylonvillage.com/bike-shop

Babylon’s bicycle shop has been open since 1968; they have gone from a one room bike shop in the community to 5000 square feet. For thirty years, they have had generations of repeat customers and they have expanded to have customers all over Long Island. The bicycle shop sells all kinds of bikes and even has triathletes riding their bikes in races across the boroughs. Coming in at number two on our list this year, Babylon Bike Shop is a friendly place to get your child’s first bike, or your first tri-cross carbon for that trip uphill!

3rd Place – Mineola Bike Shop – 475 Jericho Tpke., Mineola. 516-742-5253

Mineola Bicycle is not your average bike store, they sell bikes but they also sell every other toy a child and the child in you could ever desire.  They run promotions on their website, like “Free helmet with a bike” and “10% off power equipment repairs,” which makes them customer friendly as well as a store anyone can afford. Mineola Bicycle has been open since 1935 and feels that they provide Long Island with “a sense of tradition.” Coming in at number three on our list this year, we couldn’t agree more!
