Best Gyro on Long Island

by Best Of Long Island on January 9, 2012

A Gyro is a wonderful thing, succulent meat, creamy tzatziki sauce and soft, pillowy pita bread. On Long Island there are many places you can find one, but that doesn’t mean it’s the best. You should never settle for just any ol’ Gyro. With that in mind, we bring you this year’s winners for Best Gyro on Long Island.

Long Islanders Voted Greek Town in Rockville Centre Best Gyro on Long Island!

1. Greek Town

90 N. Village Ave., Rockville Centre. 516-678-4550. www.greektownrvc.net

Moist, juicy slivers of spice-laden fresh, tender chicken or lamb, piled high, wrapped in lettuce and tomato with tasty shreds of feta and absolutely smothered with tzatziki sauce? A solid gyro is one of the most beautiful things this world has to offer, and Greek Town knows how to make the best, according to voters. As if their gyros couldn’t get any better, Greek Town’s Chicken Gyro Dinner sits atop a marvelous mound of fresh rice pilaf and is accompanied by that most inviting tzatziki or onion sauce. Yum!

2. Mediterranean Snack Bar

360 New York Ave., Huntington. 631-423-8982. www.medsnackbar.com

3. Gyrolicious

Abe’s Pitaria deserves a mention. Right on the main drag in Long Beach across from the LIRR station. Great gyros, piled high with spiced lamb and all the fixings. I happily consumed many of them last winter while living out there.
