Best Seafood Restaurant on Long Island

by Best Of Long Island on January 13, 2012

The catch of the day is that there’s no catch; you know everything is as fresh as can be at the Best Seafood Restaurant on Long Island. Just because fish swim in the sea, doesn’t mean you have to get your feet wet. We bring you this year’s winners for Best Seafood Restaurant on Long Island.

Long Islanders Voted Rachel’s Waterside Grill in Freeport Best Seafood Restaurant on Long Island!

1 Rachel’s Waterside Grill
281 Woodcleft Ave., Freeport. 516-546-0050. www.rachelswatersidegrill.com
Since we live so close to the sea, there is no shortage of places on Long Island to get seafood. Rachel’s Waterside Grill, however, is a cut above the rest. It’s a great catch, day or night. The restaurant offers fresh seafood prepared sautéed, pan-seared, blackened, oriental grilled—anyway you want, hook, line and sinker.

2 Popei’s Clam Bar
384 N. Wantagh Ave., Bethpage. 516-822-9169. www.popeisbethpage.com

3 H2O Seafood Grill
215 W. Main St., Smithtown. 631-361-6464. www.h2oseafoodgrill.com

I live in Smithtown less than 1/2 a mile from H2O and let me tell you that my wife and I, along with other friends will never go there again. I have tried to be objective, but having been there for various reasons, someone always gets sick; twice it has been me. I don’t me just a little stomach cramp, but diarrhea episodes. I had never had that reaction before or since at any seafood restaurant, ordering similar meals. My friends, likewise, have also suffered effects from their food.

Being so close it is a shame, but I have to be honest and say that I will never go again.

I also agree that these three are shocking to be counted as the best. H2O is bland and disappointing every time, and Rachel’s is AWFUL. Tiny portions that are weak on flavor. Popei’s is good value, but not exactly fine dining, to say the least.
