Bobby Nystrom took the NY Islanders by storm when he joined the team in 1972. He is best remembered for scoring the winning goal at the 7:11 mark of overtime to win the Islanders the 1980 Stanley Cup title—the first of four straight championships for the club. For the second year in a row, Nystrom tops our list. Nystrom embraced the local community, contributing to various charities and promoting local businesses. Because of this, and that not-too-shabby goal of his, Nystrom became known as “Mr. Islander.” Mr. Islander had his No. 23 jersey retired by the Islanders in 1995 and is also a member of the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame.
